Abstract

1,075,275. Fastener driving tools. V. D. ROOSA. July 8, 1964 [July 8, 1963], No. 28150/64. Heading B4C. A magazine (19, Fig. 1) for a fastener-driving machine, such as for driving staples or nails, comprises a housing (23, Fig. 4) adapted to support a number of staples 38 and a spring- loaded follower (30) slidably and pivotally movable within the housing and arranged to overpass the staples upon loading of the magazine and then abut the rearmost staple. The follower moves in a slot 28 formed in the housing (23) and is provided with an actuating portion 32 which, because of the slot allowing the follower to pivot, rides over the staples and abuts the rearmost staple on loading. In order to prevent the machine from being fired when not in engagement with a workpiece a work contacting member 39 is provided which is connected, via a projection 41 to a trigger (13, Fig. 1). When the trigger is pulled without being in contact with the work, a bar 48 on the member 39 abuts prongs 47 formed on a blocking member 50 secured to the machine. When the machine is pressed against a workpiece, the member 39 is raised so that the bar 48 passes over the prongs 47. The machine is also prevented from being fired when all the staples are used up by means of the follower 30 abutting the blocking member thereby lifting it so that a projection 49 thereon engages with the projection 41.
