Abstract

1,012,801. Fastener driving machines. SENCO PRODUCTS Inc. April 11, 1963 [March 6, 1963], No. 14578/63. Heading B4C. A rear - loading magazine for a machine adapted to drive fasteners, such as staples 24, comprises a guide track 26 located above a fastener support rail 16, and a spring-urged feeder carriage 28 on the track for moving the fastener towards the driving position, at least one arm 31 on the carriage being urged by a spring 33 towards a side 18 of the rail and movable away from the side against the spring force by an extension 31b. The carriage is provided with brackets 30 on which are pivoted two feeder arms 31, each arm having a pair of fingers 41 for engaging the staples 24; the staples are moved towards a track 15, for a driver 13, under the action of a spring device 34, 35. To load the magazine after the carriage has reached its forwardmost position, a strip of staples is pushed over the rear end of the rail until the end staple engages with a spring retainer 37 as shown in Fig. 2. The fingers 41 of each arm are then moved away from the faces of the rail by depressing the extensions 31b on the arms 31 and the carriage then drawn rearwardly against the action of the spring device 34, 35; when the fingers are in line with the last staple they are allowed to re-engage the rail only a single feeding arm is required when feeding, e.g. nails; the driver 13 may be pneumatically actuated as shown in Fig. 1.
