A stapling tool 20 comprises a driving mechanism, a guide bar 50 for the staples moved by a pusher 52 connected to a tensioning device, the latter comprising a manual controller 58, slidable in slots 62, the ends 80 of the slots being turned to provide a forward operating position and a rearward loading position for the manual controller, guide means 70, 72 being provided adjacent each end of the guide bar, a coiled spring 68 passing around the guide means, the spring having one end secured to the manual controller and the other end secured to the pusher. The slots 62 are formed in side walls of a base 26 to which the guide bar 50 is secured, a pin 60 of the manual controller sliding in the slots; knobs 64, 66 are mounted on the pin. As shown in Fig. 1, the stapling tool is loaded with staples 76, the controller being in its forward position and the spring 68 being tensioned around guide rollers 70, 72. To reload the tool, the manual controller is disengaged from the end 70 of the slot and moved rearwardly, the pin then engaging with a hook 54 formed on the pusher and thereby lifting the latter to a position shown in Fig. 5; new staples 76 can then be easily mounted on the guide bar 50. The stapler is operated by compressed air acting on a spring-loaded piston 28.
