Abstract

442,779. Generating hot gases for drying grass &c. CAREY, W. F., Norton Hall, The Green, Norton-on-Tees, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Aug. 14, 1934, No. 23480. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] In apparatus for the production of hot gases for use in the drying of grass &c., gas generated in a producer 6 passes upwardly into a damper-controlled flue 11 having burner tubes 1 projecting horizontally therefrom, the gas being burnt adjacent the walls 13 of a narrow vertical rectangular chamber 2 by air admitted through a screen 3 and the resulting gases passing out through the open rear end of the chamber 2 into a mixing chamber 7. The latter is fitted with a plate 5 closing the lower end of the chamber 2 and baffles 8 are provided to ensure thorough mixing of the gases before they reach the rectangular outlet 10 which extends across the whole width of the mixing chamber.
