Abstract

Brick and like kilns; multiple-chamber kilns.- A kiln chamber is divided into five compartments a, b, c, d, e and provided with flues m, u whereby part of the hot gases is returned from the central compartment (nearest the chimney outlet) to the intermediate and outer compartments, and, in the case of a series kiln, to compartments of an adjacent chamber. The gases from the fire-places f pass downwards in the outer compartments a, e, upwards in the intermediate compartments b, d, and downwards again in the central compartment. Heated air is supplied above each fireplace for " salting " purposes by tubes v of double U-shape, also by a tube r and flue s, and air is passed below the chamber to the central compartment to mix with the gases entering the flues m and u. Charging openings are indicated at x.
