Abstract
418,792. Linear - dimension gauges. MAHR GES., C., Esslingen-on-Nahe, Germany. Feb. 27, 1934, No. 6323. Convention date, March 6, 1933. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv).] In a gauge of the dial type one end of a pivotally mounted bell-crank lever bears on the feeler while the other end coacts with a rack engaging a pinion operating a pointer either directly or through a suitable transmission. The plunger I engages the short arm of a bell-crark lever 5, 9 through the medium of a ball or knife edge carried by the arm. The long arm 9 engages through the medium of an eccentrically mounted ball 11 at the end a lug 14 on a crosshead 15 sliding on a guide 16 mounted in the casing. The crosshead is formed as a rack 21 to engage a pinion 17 on the pointer spindle 18. The spherical surfaces or knife edges 10, 11 may be formed on the plunger and crosshead respectively, the arms having flat surfaces. By adjusting the ball 11 on its eccentric mounting the transmission ratio may be altered. In a modification, the rack is formed on the upper side of the cross head and engages the smaller of two wheels on the same axis the larger engaging the pointer pinion thus giving an amplified reading.
