Abstract

553,471. Gauging apparatus. HEXT, H. C. V. Dec. 8, 1941, No. 15804. [Class 106 (ii)] Relates to the type wherein a lever 15, one end 25 of which is adapted to engage the workpiece engages at its other end 16 with a worm 3 acted upon by a hair-spring 42, the worm carrying a pointer 19 moving over a dial 20, and consists in mounting the lever on a pivot 14 engaging at opposite ends by point contact in bearings provided in a housing and cover plate, the feeler being mounted on a boss 22 on the pivot. The feeler is provided with a split boss to grip the boss 22 and the lever is thickened at 27 to have secured to it a leaf spring 26 through a hole in which one end of the pivot is passed. The lever 15 has secured to it a small block 29 through a hole in which one end of a wire spring 31 is passed, the other end being secured in a diametrical groove in a disc 32 secured to a pivot 33 passing to the outside of the housing. A small setting lever attached to the pivot 33 outside the casing has its movement limited by a gap engaging a fixed stop, so that the spring 31 may be adjusted and hence the feeler 24 positioned to engage the top or bottom of the circular workpiece or into a neutral position. The end of the lever engaging the worm is rounded.
