Abstract

619,331. Linear-dimension gauges. BALL, E. D. Dec. 3, 1946, No. 35746. [Class 106 (ii)] An internal linear-dimension gauge comprises the combination of a body part having an arcuate form, fixed and movable feelers so arranged at diametrically opposite positions on the body part that they are insertable into a hole, the diameter of which is required to be measured, and means for measuring or indicating the amount of relative movement of the feelers. A gauge body 1 having a handle 2 is formed with a slide 3 to which is adjustably clamped a block 4 which together with the part 6 of the body is arcuate in shape. The block 4 carries a pair of fixed feelers 7 and the part 6 is formed with a bearing 8 for a spindle carrying at one end a movable feeler 9 and at the other end a lever 10 abutting a plunger of a dial gauge 12 adjustably mounted by a screw 13. Owing to the arcuate shape of the gauge it may be used while a housing tool is still in position. In another embodiment, a body part of semicircular form with a radially extending handle has secured in its upper part a fixed feeler which may be of segmental form or comprise spaced interchangeable studs. A movable feeler formed by a bell-crank lever is mounted diametrically opposite the centre of the fixed feeler and abuts against the plunger of a dial gauge. In another embodiment shown in Fig. 5 a plunger 25 is mounted opposite a fixed feeler 24 and parallel to a slidable rod 26 connected therewith by a lever 27. An abutment 28 on the rod 26 bears on the plunger 29 of a dial gauge 30. In a final embodiment shown in Fig. 6 an arcuate body part 32 carries at one end an extension 33 bearing fixed feelers 34 and at the other end is carried by a handle 35 parallel to which is a rotatable rod 37 with an arm 38 bent to form a movable feeler 39 and an arm 41 for engaging the plunger of a dial gauge 36.
