578,228. Linear - dimension gauges. WARRY, R. F., and JEKA PRECISION ENGINEERS, Ltd. Jan. 25, 1944, No. 1356. [Class 106 (ii)] A comparator gauge for measuring internal diameters comprises a gauge body carrying a dial indicator, a cylindrical tube projecting from the body and within which is pivotally mounted a lever, one end of which transmits movement to the indicator and the outer end of which carries a radially adjustable workengaging stylus, means for adjusting the fulcrum of the lever and a translatively adjustable squareness abutment carried by the tube. The gauge comprises a body 10 in which an indicator gauge 1 is clamped, and a tubular projection. 9 in which is pivoted at 8 a lever 7 having a work-engaging stylus 16 projecting through the tube at one end and a finger-piece 18 at the other. The lever is spring-urged towards the stem of the indicator. Sliding on the tubular projection 9 is a squareness abutment 19 which can be clamped in any position to measure bores at any depth, as indicated by graduations on the tube 9. The position of the tube in the body 10 may be adjusted by the nut 13 to obtain a known step-up ratio, e.g. 5 : 1, from the lever 7. A device for setting the gauge comprises a plate 22 with vertical end wall 23 apertured at 29 to receive the tubular portion of the gauge. Parallel slips 24 are built up to equal the size of the bore to be measured, and a top plate 25 clamped thereon.
