Abstract
23,947. Grant, J. H. Oct. 30. [Cognate Application, 28,017/11.] Tools for setting-out work. - Relates to a gauging-attachment for callipers, scribing- blocks, &c., providing a yielding contact stud, small movements of which are indicated upon an enlarged scale. A casing c, adapted to be secured to one leg of the calliper &c., contains a sliding plunger h, having a head h' for contact with the work and provided at its inner end with a slot bounded above and below by knife-edges. Through this slot an indicating- lever a passes, and is retained in position by a pin loosely retained in a suitable slot in the lever. A knife-edge b presses upon the lever so as to form a fulcrum at a short distance from the other edges, and to adjust the sensitiveness the fulcrum is carried upon a plate c capable of adjustment by means of a cam f having an external finger-wheel. The arm indicates upon a scale m, and is kept normally at the zero thereof, with the contact head h<1> in its outermost position, by means of a spring l.
