575,345. Linear - dimension gauges. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Dec. 16, 1943, No. 21144. Convention date, April 21. [Class 106 (ii)] A gauge for measuring internal dimensions comprises a pair of internal caliper fingers of which one is fixed and the other is carried by a movable support which is urged towards a movable actuating member whose movements are amplified and visually indicated, the movable support being normally held out of contact with the actuating member by a spring-actuated retractor whereby a workpiece can be placed over the caliper fingers without affecting the actuating member, manually operable means for releasing the retractor being provided so as to allow the movable finger to move into contact with the work-piece. Adjustable stops may be provided to limit movement of the movable support, and means may be provided for rendering the retractor inoperative. Work to be gauged, e.g. a tube 44, is placed on the table 11 over the fixed finger 23 and movable finger 22. The latter is mounted on a slide 25 secured to the base 1 by two leaf springs 29, and is urged away from the finger 23 by a tension spring 34 anchored at 35. The end of the slide 25 contacts the plunger 3 of a dial indicator 2, whereby departures from standard size are indicated. A retractor in the form of a crank 38, 39 is mounted with a coil spring 37 which acts in opposition to the spring 34 and normally exerts pressure on the abutment 40 of the slide 25 to maintain the fingers 22, 23 closed. The retractor 38 is provided with a finger plate 41 which can be depressed to allow the spring 34 to move the finger 22 into contact with the work ; it may be maintained in a depressed position by a plunger 23 for snap gauging. The table 11 may be mounted on a pillar 12 sliding in a tubular support 10 and spring loaded to maintain it in a raised position ; by depressing the table 11 manually the bore of the tube 44 can be checked at different heights. For locating the tube, an adjustable cross-pin 46 carried in a support 47 may be provided. The support 47 and fixed finger 23 are both adjustable and are clamped by the nut 49.
