Abstract

567,207. Calliper gauges. EVANS, W. J. April 19, 1943, No. 6209. [Class 106 (ii)] In a calliper gauge for testing the linear dimensions of work pieces of the kind comprising two jaws, at least one of which is movable relatively to the other and a movable contact member carried by one jaw and adapted to actuate a pointer associated with a scale, the other jaw is provided with a movable contact member adjusted by a rotary cam or formed by the periphery of a rotary cam. Fig. 1 shows a gauge with a fixed jaw 1 and sliding jaw 3 mounted on a bar 2. The sliding jaw is clamped in position by an eccentric pin which may co-operate with a spring 6. To the fixed jaw 1 is attached a U-shape strip of metal 11, 12, in the bend of which slides a pin 9 having a work-engaging head 8. To the sliding pin is pivoted a pointer 10 which moves in a V-shape recess formed by distance pieces 13 and indicates on a scale the departure of the length of material being measured from a standard length for which the jaws are set. The pointer is pressed against the upper distance piece 13 in the region of its pivot by a spring 15. The lower jaw is provided with an adjustable camshape disc 16 which forms a second workcontacting member. The sliding pin and pointer and the cam may be arranged within the thickness of the jaws. Fig. 5 shows a gauge having arms 25, 26 pivoted at 27 and adjustable by a screw 28. The arms carry work-contacting members 8, 16 as described above, and a work stop 30.
