Abstract

560,477. Linear dimension gauges. IDEAL MACHINE TOOL & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and BERNFELD, E. Oct. 10, 1942 No. 14239. [Class 106 (ii)] A calliper gauge comprises fixed and movable jaws made mainly of moulded or pressed plastic material, gauging surfaces thereon made of steel, graduated scales associated with the fixed and movable jaws, and a magnifying lens mounted on the sliding jaw above the said scales. The calliper gauge as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a graduated steel beam 5 with a fixed jaw 2 and a slidable jaw 2a. The jaws are made of steel mounted on arms 2c, 2b of plastic material. The slidable jaw is carried by a slider 1a made of plastic materials, the slider 1a being associated with an auxiliary slider 1b. The slider 1a has an open fram in which is mounted a steel strip 4 having vernier graduations. A depth gauge'rod 3 carried by the slider 1a passes through the slider 1b and through a stop 1c of plastic material on the end of the beam 5. Mounted on the slider 1a is a frame 6 supporting a lens 13 that is provided with means for adjusting the height of the frame to give correct focus. The beam itself may be made of plastic material with metal strips on its edges. The lens may be mounted on a detachable support or the support may be formed as an extensible framework with crosspivoted links. The lens itself may be detachably mounted and readily replaceable.
