Abstract
571,977. Linear - dimension gauges. CHIVERTON, H. A. July 6,1943, No. 10930. [Class 106 (ii)] A height gauge comprises a cylindrical pillar 1 with its base the same diameter as the pillar, the latter having one or both ends 4 plane and perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder. A carrier 5 slidable along the pillar has a beak 6 for use as a reference element or scriber and is arranged so that it can be lowered into a positive co-planar with the base of the pillar. The carrier has verniers 10 co-operating with scales 8 (one only of which is shown) on the pillar. Several separate scales, e.g. decimals and fractions of inches, and metric units, may be provided. The scales may be provided on separate members attached to and projecting from the cylinder, the bore in the carrier being recessed to take the scales. The carrier may be adjusted by means of two interengaging threaded collars, one carried by the pillar and the other by the carrier. Two carriers may be provided to form a snap-type gauge. The scales and verniers may be duplicated, one scale starting from the top of the pillar and the other from the bottom, so that the gauge may be used in inverted position. The verniers may be adjustable on the carrier.
