Abstract

649,231. Linear-dimension gauges. HOLCH, E. Nov. 19, 1948, No. 30100. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A height gauge has three measuring arms 34, 35, 36, arranged at different levels, two extending in opposite directions and the third extending at right angles thereto, mounted on a slide 15 displaceable by a micrometer screw. The top plane of each arm is horizontal and the distance between such adjacent planes is equal to the travel potential of the slide. If the top planes of the arms 34, 35, 36 are 10, 30 and 50 mm., respectively, above the base, a range of measurement of 10-30, 30-50 and 50-70 mm., respectively, is obtainable for a 20 mm. movement of the slide 15. The gauge comprises a graduated column 13 surrounded by the slide 15 which has a reading mark 40. A screw 16, Fig. 6, within the column, has a collar 23 held between bearing surfaces 21, 24, preventing longitudinal movement. The screw 16 engages with a threaded extension of the slide 15 passing through an elongated slot in the rear of the column 13. For under-surface measurement the gauge is used as shown. For upper surface measurement or for scribing, the arm concerned is fitted with a removable jaw 49. Base blocks of known height may be fastened to the gauge.
