[Class 106 (ii)] A measuruag device comprises a block 1, Fig. 1, with an accurately plane surface 2 and provided with similar scales 3, 4, 5 ... disposed at spaced intervals. The initial graduation 7 of each scale is displaced progressively from the lower surface 2 by an amount which is an integer multiple of a simple fraction of the distance between two adjacent graduations, the number of scales being equal to the denominator of said fraction. In modifications, the scales are displaced at distances round a cylinder or on different faces of a polygon, the effective lengths of which may be increased by the addition of a block of unit length. In a further modification shown in Fig. 4, the device is combined with a micrometer. The block 11 is threaded to receive a plug 14 with a micrometer head 16, the graduations 17 being at distances which are simple fractions of the additional amount by which any scale is displaced axially from its adjacent scale.
