The feeler slides in a hole in the boss 2 of the casing 1 and its inner enlarged head is grooved to receive one end of the spring 10 to the other end of which engages a similar groove in a block 8 attached to the casing- The spring may be made thinner at one or both ends. A pointer 15 is fixed tangentially to the end of the spring and moves over a scale 16 which may be graduated to read differences between a predetermined dimension and that of an article inserted between the gauging face 4 of the feeler and a fixed plane.
