Abstract

189,452. Pryce, L. Nov. 28, 1921, [Convention date]. Linear-dimension gauges.-Comprises a hollow cone-shaped member adapted to receive the extremity of the article to be gauged and a cooperating graduated bar sliding axially through the reduced end of the cone for reading off the diameter. The invention is described as applied to the measurement of the largest diameter of the cutting edges of rock-drill bits. A hollow truncated cone-shaped member A is carried on a base F, and is secured to a scale guide G as shown. A graduated rod or scale I passes through the smaller hole of the cone and the guide G, and abuts at its end against the part to be measured which is inserted into the cone. The end of the rod I is provided with a plate N which is hollowed to receive the centre of the drill where the latter protrudes beyond the outer edge of the drill. The dimension is read at the zero of an excess-and-defect scale M. The rod may be returned by a spring after each measurement.
