Abstract
763,416. Linear dimension gauges. FRASER, J. R. Nov. 4, 1955 [Nov. 4, 1954], No. 31967/54. Class 106 (2). A measuring gauge comprises a member 2 slidable longitudinally within a holder 4 and carrying a tapering element 1 which projects beyond a reference surface 14 at one end of the holder 4, the holder being longitudinally slotted at 7 and provided with calibrations along the length of the slot and a 'reference mark, e.g. on an indicator 8 secured to the member 2, being formed or provided on the member 2 to be visible through the slot, the tapered element 1 is inserted into the hole whose diameter is to be measured until its diameter equals that of the hole and the holder 4 is then slid over the element 1 until the surface 14 engages the surface surrounding the hole. The relative positions of element 1 and holder 4, the degree of taper being known, enable the diameter of the hole to be measured. The scale along the slot may be directly calibrated in diameters. The end 14 may be formed as a micrometer gauging head for checking the depth of countersunk holes.
