Abstract

650,588. Linear-dimension gauges. CONEX. TERNA, Ltd., and WHITWORTH, F. March 12, 1948, No. 7547. [Class 106 (ii)] A gauge for measuring the external diameter of tubes comprises a plate 1 having a tapered slot 2 stepped to accommodate various diameters, and a sliding member 4 adapted to engage the external surface of the tube nearest the bottom of the slot. Graduation marks c, b, d are provided whereby the slider 4 will indicate the external diameter and the probable gauge of metal and internal diameter to be expected from a standard tube of the external diameter so measured. The angle of taper may be 12 degrees and in the example given the gauge is designed for dealing with tubes from ¢ inch external diameter to 1¢ inches external diameter in “ inch grades.
