Abstract

799,830. Plug gauges. FLITTON, J. F., THORN, L. R., and LENNIE, M. F. Dec. 24, 1956 [Oct. 13, 1955], No. 29234/55. Class 106 (2). A bore gauge comprises a tapering portion 12 of circular cross-section provided with a graduated helix 14 marked on the curved surface of the tapering portion. In the embodiment shown the gauge has a handle 13 about one inch long, and a tapering portion 12 about 2.125 inches long. At the line B, the diameter is 0.260 inch and at the line A it is 0.300 inch. Four reference lines 15 are marked at 90 degree intervals around the portion 12, and thus each intersection of the helix 14 with one of these lines represents an increase in diameter of one thousandth of an inch. In operation the gauge is inserted in a bore to be measured, the intersection nearest the edge of the bore noted, and ten thousandths of a inch estimated by eye. The gauge can also be used for measuring the minor axis of bores which are not circular in section.
