Abstract

1,164,703. Plug gauge. H. FREEMAN. May 20, 1968 [May 22, 1967], No.23719/67. Heading G1M. A measuring gauge for measuring the diameter of circular apertures or holes comprises a tapered mandrel 1, a sliding indicator 4 mounted on or in the mandrel for longitudinal sliding movement, a projection 5 on the sliding indicator extending radially beyond the outer surface of the mandrel and means such as a datum 6 on the mandrel co-operating with the sliding indicator to enable the diameter of the mandrel at the_position of one edge 7 of the projection to be determined. In the embodiment shown the sliding indicator is mounted in a slot 3 in the mandrel and has a scale which co-operates with the fixed datum 6. Alternatively the scale may be marked or the mandrel and the datum marked on the sliding indicator. In use the projection 5 engages against the edge of the hole or aperture to be measured so that the edge 7 corresponds to the point on the mandrel in contact with the edge of the hole or aperture.
