Abstract
600,714. Squares. HARDING, E., and CORRIGAN, J. J. Aug. 5, 1944, No. 14991. [Class 97 (iii)] An engineer's square, set square or angle gauge is provided with two or more gauging points placed in any suitable position thereon and at any desired distance apart ; by taking readings over the gauging points by means of a suitable indicator the accuracy of the square itself or of a workpiece may be tested. As shown the gauging device consists of a short cylindrical rod B fitted in a slotted holder A mounted over the blade D of the square and secured by a spring E and screw F. In a modification the holder straddles one edge of the blade and is secured by a spring or a screw. The gauging point may be constituted by a curved surface of the holder. The gauging points may alternatively be permanently secured to the blade or integral therewith. A magnetic block may be fitted in the stock of the square to maintain it in contact with the work when of steel or other magnetic metal. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 203,455, [Class 97 (iii)], 548,114 and 563,219.
