Abstract
419,678. Linear dimension gauges. SHARDLOW & CO., Ltd., A., and BORRING- HAM, W., Washford Road, Sheffield. June 15, 1933, No. 17056. [Class 106 (ii).] A micrometer screw gauge for facilitating the setting of tools in boring bars comprises a frame 1 having an adjustable anvil 2 to set the zero for boring bars of different diameters and a barrel and thimble so graduated as to give direct readings of the resultant bore diameter, these readings being derived from a measurement of the amount of extension of the cutting edge of the tool from the surface of the boring bar. The scales are half-size so as to read diameters directly. To vary the setting of the anvil 2, it is made with a shoulder 5 which engages a sleeve 6 of selected length when a nut 7 is tightened on the thread 4. A grubscrew 8 engages a flat portion 9 of the shank 3. The sleeve 6 may be disposed on the other side of the tail-piece of the gauge. Alternatively, the position of the anvil may be varied by a micrometer screw device.
