Abstract
1,103,428. Determining surface roughness. H.P. RUBERT. July 13, 1965, No. 29570/65. Heading G1M. In apparatus for assessing the roughness of the surface 9a of a specimen 9 a pivoted probe 27 terminating in a stiff spring blade 25 is moved relative to and in contact with the surface 9a to be tested so that when the blade is pivoted at a critical angle to the surface it is caused to vibrate as function of the degree of roughness. The probe extends from an indicator 19 mounted by a carrier 14 which is movable along a column 12 in a vertical direction to alter the angle of operation of the probe, the column 12 being slidable towards and away from the test piece 9 along a bar 6. In a modification, two carriers 14, indicators 19 and probes 27 are provided, the carriers being set at different heights to act as "GO" and "NO GO" gauges respectively.
