Abstract

196,282. Weitz, A. April 15, 1922, [Convention date]. Linear-dimension gauges. -A beam calliper having the usual fixed scale band vernier g is also provided with a movable scale a and vernier f, both verniers being carried on the arm e. The graduations on the scale a may correspond to, or be multiples of those of the scale b. The scale a being set so that when the arm e contacts with the member c the zero of the vernier g reads off the size required, the work is measured up in. the usual manner, when the scale a and vernier register, according to the scale, the difference., half difference &c. between the size actually measured and the size required. The apparatus shown is adapted for measuring an article of greater size than that, finally required, but by placing the rule a by one with the stop c at its opposite end and having a second vernier on the scale f reading from the right hand end towards the centre, the calliper may be used for measuring dimensions of less size than those finally required.
