Abstract

548,114. Protractors. PRAWDIN, M. CHAROL-. March 24, 1941, No. 3932. [Class 97 (iii)] A protractor for measuring angles comprises a pair of caliper arms 5, 6 combined with a protractor scale 8 in such a manner that the arm 6 is movable and constitutes an indicating arm on the scale, each arm being provided with lateral projections 12 adapted to be brought into contact with the side of the angle to be measured. The arm 6 is guided on the scale 8 by means of a pin engaging in a slot 10 and a vernier 9 is provided. Of each pair of projections one may be fixed and the other slidable in a slot 11 or by means of a slider or both may be slidable and the arrangement is that the projections 12 are brought into contact with the sides of either an internal or an exernal angle. An additional arm 16 is provided the end of which is engaged, by means of a slot, with the rim of the scale so that the arm may pass over the indicating arm and be used for indicating some division of the angle. The projections 12 may, if desired, be carried on prolongations of the arms 5, 6 beyond the pivot 7.
