Abstract
165,935. Gowlland, C. S., and Pailthorpe, A. L. April 1, 1920. Linear-dimension gauges.-Relates to gauges of the kind in which a. feeler bears on the work to ascertain the alteration in size of the work during the operation of grinding &c., and consists in providing a bracket and motion-transmitting means between a dial gauge or like indicating-device and the feeler, such gauge indicating by means of a reflected beam of light moving over a scale. The bracket A, which is adapted to be secured to a part of a machine, support a dial gauge C, the anvil of which abuts against a rod F which passes downward through the bracket and engages a screw J passed through one end of a lever or feeler G pivoted to an extension of the bracket at G<1>, the other end of the lever bearing against the work. The adjustable screw J is fitted as shown, and a similar screw may be fitted to the lever G and, engage the work. The gauge pointer may be set, and as the work is machined down, the pointer returns to zero. The lever G may be duplicated and the second lever may be brought to rest on a pattern when the work is reduced to the proper size. The spindle of the dial gauge C is fitted with a mirror which reflects a beam of light over a scale K<1>. Specification 165,510 is -referred to.
