588,553. Linear-dimension gauges. JONES (MACHINE TOOLS), Ltd., E. H., and HAMMETT, E. S. Nov. 16, 1943, No. 19144. [Class 106 (ii)] A dial gauge in which the indicator is operated by a pair of levers, has one lever 1 pivoted between its ends at 2 and adapted to engage the work at one end 4, the other end engaging the second lever 8, preferably by a pin-and-slot 9, near its end pivot 7, the other end of the second lever engaging the needle operating mechanism by means of a tooth which engages a spiral groove 11 on the spindle carrying said needle. The end 14 of a blade spring may engage in a slot in the lever 8 to take up backlash; the spring may be reversible. The work-contacting arm 4 may be angularly adjustable with respect to the remainder of the lever 1.
