Abstract

560,638. Gauges. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), Ltd., D., and TUPLIN, W. A. Sept. 7, 1942, No. 12576. [Class 106 (ii)] A linear dimension gauge with a fixed and movable jaw for indicating the departure from standard form of a workpiece such as gear teeth, comprises a tubular bar a, Fig. 1, with a circular gauge jaw b and a narrow jaw c. The jaw b is fixed to the bar a by a set screw b<1>, the position being determined by a removable distance-piece c, preferably of U-shape, disposed between the boss of the jaw and a collar d secured to the bar. The jaw c is formed with an extended boss screw threaded for part of its length to engage threads a<1> on the bar and is closed by means of a plug i. The jaw b is formed with circumferential recesses or serrations and is graduated as shown in Fig. 2. A spring f attached to the jaw c engages one of the serrations and is extended to fit loosely on the end of the bar a. A pin f<2> on the spring co-operates with a pin g on the bar to limit the relative angular movement of the bar and jaw. The pressure'of the spring in the serrations is adjusted by means of a screw h.
