Abstract

655,838. Plug gauges. THOMPSON, S. V., and BARTLETT, R. Dec. 3, 1948, No. 31296. [Class 106 (ii)] A plug gauge, Figs. 1, 2, having adjustable gauging members 3 comprises a body 4 containing a central spindle tapered at one end 7 and movable endwise by screw means 11 engaging the other end and co-operating with markings on the body 4, the parts being so arranged that movement of the tapered end 7 towards the screw and indicating means displaces the gauging members 3 outwards. The gauging members 3 are pressed against the tapered end 7 by coiled springs 16 and the diameter to which the peripheral surfaces of the gauging members are ground is slightly less than the minimum diameter to be gauged to provide line contacts when gauging. The plug gauge may be locked by a screw 15. The gauging members 3 and their guides 5 may be of T cross-section as shown in Fig. 3.
