Abstract

616,546. Die stocks. BLACKER, L. V. S. March 12, 1946, No. 7754. [Class 83 (iii)] A die stock comprises a die housing 11, a handle 15 having its end part in threaded engagement with a base portion 16 on the housing, and a loose plunger 18 slidable within the handle so that, by turning the end part of the handle relatively to the portion 16, the plunger is displaced to open or close a split die disposed in the housing. The die is provided with a recess circumferentially displaced, say, by 90 degrees, from the split. To close the die, the end of the plunger is engaged in the recess, while to open it the split is engaged. The boss and the handle are graduated so that the setting of the plunger can be read off as a micrometer. The invention may be embodied in a device for use in a lathe tailstock.
