603,971. Keyless mechanism. SCHMITZ, W. Nov. 19, 1945, No. 31042. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1944. [Class 139] Keyless mechanism comprises a winding stem with removable crown characterised in that the lower extremity of the crown engages a split chuck adjustable along the winding stem. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the crown is made of two parts 7 and 3, the former being screwed on the winding stem 13 and pressing the latter down so that its extremity 4 engages with the jaws 5 of an axially split chuck 6, also screwed on the winding stem 13, to cause the jaws 5 to be pressed tightly against the stem 13. In a modification, Fig. 4, not shown, the winding stem is much shorter and the chuck faces the opposite way from that in Fig. 1 and the portion 7 of 'the crown is screwed inside the chuck. In both embodiments packings 11 and 12 are placed as shown, between the part 7 and 3 of the part 10 and a sleeve 2 respectively.
