Abstract
575,426. Wrenches. LIVERMONT, F. W. Dec. 2, 1943, No. 20156. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1942. [Class 61 (iii)] A wrench which indicates with an audible click of a snap action spring when a predetermined torque is reached comprises a jaw 10 pivoted to the handle 11, a bar spring 19 carried by a block 20 and bearing at the other end on an extension 13 of the jaw a snap action blade spring 23 anchored at the ends between a projection 29 which may be adjustable and an adjustable pin 30 in the handle block 20 and an indicator pin 24 carried by a spring bearing on the snap action spring 23 and adapted to be projected with a click through a hole 36 in the handle ; the snap action spring bears on a fulcrum 34 and during the action of the wrench on an adjustable fulcrum pin 35 which at the moment the predetermined torque is reached causes the flexure of the spring 23 shown in full lines to snap suddenly into the dotted line position. In a modification the indicator pin is mounted directly on the snap spring but in a further modification, Fig. 6, the spring 23b carrying the indicator pin 36b has a dished portion 42 engaging the adjustable fulcrum pin 35b to produce the snap action and the point of contact between the end of the bar spring 19b and extension 13b of the pivoted jaw is adjustable by means of a movable interposed ball 46 on the end of a rod 47 movable by a nut 49.
