[Also in Group XXIII] A torque measuring and overload release wrench has a hollow handle 1 perpendicular to the axis of which is pivotally mounted a member 2 adapted to drive a part to be tightened, the member 2 being rigidly connected to a lever arm 3 pivotally movable in an axial plane within the handle, the free end of the arm 3 being capable of actuating through reduction, rocking levers 4, 5, the arm 6 of an L-shaped lever swinging in the same axial plane about a fulcrum 7 which passes through the other arm 8, the L-shaped lever being subjected to the action of a pressure member 11 acting on a roller 12 mounted thereon. The pressure member 11 is subjected to the action of a spring 18 which bears against a stop 19 provided in a tube 20 which is slidable in the handle 1. The tube 20 has a tapped hole 22 in which engages a threaded member 21 which is rotatably mounted in the free end of the handle 1. A tightening member for moving the sleeve up and down in the handle is connected to the end of the member 21. A mark 24 visible through a slit 25 in the handle opposite a scale 26 indicates the force to which the driving member 2 is subjected. The lever 5 which actuates the L-shaped lever, has at one end a mitre-shaped member 9 pivotally mounted on a pin parallel to the pivot axis of the driving member 2, so that the member 9 becomes disengaged from the end of the arm 6 of the L-shaped lever after moving the latter through a certain angle against the action of the pressure member. The rocking lever 5 and mitre 9 are subjected to the action of return springs 13, 14. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a damping member which projects from the lateral face of the rocking lever 5 enters into contact with the wall 16 of the handle on disengagement of the mitre 9 and arm 6.
