Abstract

813,326. Wrenches. HIPSLEYS LTD. Dec. 12,1956 [March 5,1956], No. 37924/56. Class 61. In a torque limiting wrench comprising a single length of tubing 10 flattened at one end, a torque control mechanism housed in the flattened end and a coil spring 14 for actuating the torque control mechanism located in the round portion of the tube 10, the spring engages a nut 15 movable longitudinally of the tube and held against rotation by a pin 16 which moves in a slot 17 provided with an external scale (not shown) to indicate adjustment of the nut. A spindle 18 threading through the nut, projects beyond the end of the tube and is operated by a tommy bar passed through the hole 19. The spindle is prevented from being withdrawn from the tube by providing a washer 21 which is held in position in the end of the tube by a circlip 22. Other means for preventing withdrawal of the spindle may be provided. The spring 14 bears against a member 23 which through a short rod 24 exerts pressure on a rocker arm 25 pivoted to the side plates of the flattened end of the tube. A tooth 26 on the arm 25 meshes with teeth 27 on an extension 28 of a lever pivoted at 30 to the side plates 12. The projecting end of the lever 29 is provided with a square socket 31 in which the square mandrel of a conventional socket member is engaged.
