Abstract

565,315. Torque-measuring wrenches. OSCAR, I. Sept. 18, 1943, No. 15337. [Class 61 (iii)] [Also in Group XIX] An adjustable torque overload release wrench has the head 3 normally locked to rotate with the handle 1 by a slidable pawl 8 held in engagement with one of a number of notches in the head by a roller 7a mounted on a slide 7 under the influence of a spring 10 in the handle, the pressure of which spring is adjustable by an abutment 11 on a screw-threaded rod 13 engaging a fixed nut 12. The load on the compression spring is registered by a pointer 11a moving along a graduated slot in the tubular handle. When the predetermined torque is exceeded, the roller 7a rides off the concaved end 8c of the pawl 8 on to one or other arm 9b, 9c of a rocker 9, thereby tilting the latter so that a central projection 9a thereon engages one or other of the inclined faces 8a or 8b on the rear end of the pawl, thus disengaging the forward end from the wrench head.
