Abstract

1323341 Torque spanners PRECISION ENG CO (READING) Ltd 25 May 1971 [26 May 1970] 25271/70 Heading B3N A torque spanner comprises a tubular body 10 a lever 11 pivoted at 12, a bell-crank lever 13 pivoted to lever 11 at 14, a link 15 pivoted at 16 to the bell-crank lever 13 and at 18 to a plunger 17 which is in engagement with a spring 20. In operation when a -preset torque is reached the inner end of lever 11 moves upwardly, as seen in Fig. 1, and the common end of lever 13 and link 15 moves downwardly so that projection 24 audibly strikes body 10. When the load on lever 11 is removed the levers return to their original positions. The loading of spring 20 is controlled by a nut 9 non- rotatably positioned in the body 10 and a screw 7 which is attached to an end cap 19. Square 21 may be replaced by a ratchet mounted square (28), Fig. 4 (not shown).
