Abstract

1366309 Torque wrenches T ROBINSON 2 Nov 1971 [2 Nov 1970] 52022/70 Heading B3N A torque wrench comprises a lever 35 pivoted at 27 and connected to a spigot 19 via a ratchet mechanism, the other end of the lever is connected to an adjustable spring 41 by a linkage 42 and a plunger 46. The linkage has rollers 43, 45, 47, 48, 49 which can roll or slide along the lever 35 or an abutment member 38. Due to the formation of the linkage the reaction force during torquing of a member is divided so that part is applied to the abutment member and the remainder is applied to the spring. The linkage may comprise two, three or more than the four links shown. Adjustment of the spring load is by a nut 61 and a screw 57. The nut is plastics and has a projection 62 in a graduated slot 56 in a plastics sleeve 53. The graduations are varied through a transparent insert 67 that also magnifies them. Spigot 19 has a magnet fitted thereto to help retain the spigot in engagement with a fastener.
