Abstract
819,855. Wrenches. BAHCO A. B. Feb. 5, 1958 [Feb. 5,1957 ; Jan. 21,1958], No. 3729/58. Class 61. [Also in Groups XIX and XXV] In a torque indicating wrench in which angular distortion of the wrench body resulting from applied torque is translated through a lever system to a pointer and in which a pointer housing and dial is supported by a part of the wrench which is connected to the wrench body but is relieved of torsional strain, the pointer is actuated by a calibration stud adjustably attached to the wrench body. As shown the wrench body 1 has a square head 2 adapted to engage a socket or key corresponding to a nut or bolt head, the body 1 being provided at its upper end with a recess 3 into which a tool for turning the wrench can be inserted. A surrounding sleeve 4 is fixed to the lower end of the body 1 by screws 5. A pointer housing 6 having a scale 11 is secured to the upper end of the sleeve 4 by a hub 7. The pointer 9 is pivoted at 10 to the housing 6 so that the indicating end of the pointer may move over the scale 11. The opposite end 12 has a slot 13 into which projects a transverse pin 14 provided on the free end of the calibration stud 15 which is secured adjustably in the wrench body. In a modification the head of the stud is provided with two or more transversely projecting pins. In another modification, Fig. 9, the stud 15 carries a ball 17 engaging a slot in the pointer 9. A manually adjustable auxiliary pointer 21 is adapted to be moved by the indicating pointer and to remain in a position corresponding to the turn of the pointer 9.
