703,567. Vices. SAUNT, J. A. Sept. 9, 1952 [June 21, 1951], No. 14710/51. Class 61 In a hand vice comprising a two armed lever 6 which rocks on a lever 1 about a fulcrum 9, the levers are connected together by a screwed stem 5 carrying a nut 8, a spring 7 being interposed between the nut and the lever 6 to urge the operative ends of the levers towards each other. The stem 5 is secured to the lever 1 and passes through a clearance hole in the lever 6. The fulcrum comprises a ball 9, which may be loose or secured to one of the levers. In modifications the fulcrum comprises a length of round rod interposed between the levers, a screw threaded through the lever 6 and having a head which bears on the inside of the lever 1, or a rib or projection on the member 1. The operative ends of the levers either themselves form jaws or are adapted to receive loose jaws 17 having stems which are received in end notches 18. The stems protrude beyond the outer faces of the levers and are grooved to receive spring clips 21 secured to grooved heads 22 on the levers. In a modification for use with long work a hole is provided in the fulcrum and the tang 3 is off-set to bring the handle clear of the centre line of the vice. In another modification the handle is grooved longitudinally.
