Abstract

763,282. Clamps. HAMPTON, Ltd., C. & J. Feb. 21,1955 [May 28, 1954], No. 15780/54. Class 61 A clamp for holding two lengths of pipe in end to end position during welding comprises two V-blocks 1 connected together in spaced relationship, a chain grip 6 being associated with each block. One end of each chain is pivoted to a screw 8 which passes through a clearance hole in a lug at one side of the V-block, a nut 11 threaded on the screw bearing on the other side of the lug. The nut shown has a knurled or ribbed head 12A for hand manipulation. In a modification the nut is adapted for manipulation by a spanner or tommy bar. The V-blocks are connected together by a length of tubing 2 screwed into bores in the blocks and additionally secured by rivets 3. In a modification the blocks are connected by a bar of rectangular section or a flat strip which may be thickened along one edge, one block being riveted to the bar and the other being adjustable by means of two or more spaced holes for a locating pin; alternatively both blocks may be pinned to the bar. In another modification the V-blocks are castings integrally connected by a member of cruciform or other section.
