Abstract

912,291. Vices. YOUNG, S. G. Dec. 19, 1958, No. 41142/58. Class 61. In a hand vice comprising arms 1, 2 pivoted at 3 each arm having a portion adjacent the pivot adapted to be gripped in the hand and each provided with a gripping jaw 5, 6 at the end remote from the pivot, detachable jaw caps are provided. A shoulder 7 is provided on each arm and serves as an abutment surface for the hand of the operator. The arms 1, 2 are identical castings and together form a handle of square cross-section. A clamping bolt 8 passes through the jaws, the screw-threaded end being provided with a wing nut 9. A V-shaped leaf-spring 10 is adapted to urge the jaws apart. The gripping surface of each jaw is provided with a pair of perpendicularly intersecting grooves 13. The detachable jaw plates of steel or plastic material such as nylon or polythene are provided with clips 16 or ridges 17 to engage the re-entrant portions 17, 18 on each jaw.
