Abstract

689,493. Wrenches. PERCIVAL, W.B. Dec. 7, 1950 [Dec. 12, 1949], No. 31861/49. Class 61 (iii). An adjustable spanner or wrench comprising a main body member 1 having a fixed jaw 2 and a triangular shaped movable jaw 6 'slidable on the body and enclosed by a tubular tapering coupling member 7 having internal surfaces engaging inclined surfaces on the movable jaw and body member respectively, has long-nosed jaws 17 and 18 each provided with a depressed toothed portion 20 set below the level of the gripping surface to allow the tool to be used as a pipe wrench and a spanner. A spring 11 housed in registering slots in the movable jaw and body member draws the jaws 6 into the coupling member with a wedging action, the jaw being released by applying upward thumb pressure thereto. The inclined surface 5 of the body and the engaging surface on the coupling member are knurled.
