Abstract
851,499. Key-extractors. FREEMAN, H. G., and THROP, A. Nov. 25, 1958 [Dec. 13, 1957], No. 38731/57. Class 61. A key-withdrawing tool has a handle 1 with a nose 22 projecting at one end so it can be brought to bear on the face of one or other of two members 18 and 19 connected by a key 17 and means offset to the side of the nose 22 to engage behind the propeling head of the key 17 to provide the short arm of a bell-crank lever of which the handle 1 provides the long arm. The nose 22 may be formed on a stem which is threaded so as to be adjustable lengthwise in a hole 7 in a handle 1 by means of a thumb nut 9. One end of a rectangular link 14 is looped in a hook 13 on the handle 1 whilst the other end engages behind the gib 16 of the key 17. The key is extracted by levering the handle downwards about the nose 22, taking up on the nut 9 and repeating, if necessary. In another embodiment the nose 42 is formed by a hardened surface at the end of the handle 31. The link 42 is pivoted at 43 to a body 24 which slides on the handle 31 on which it can be adjusted by a friction-ratchet 34 operated by grips 40-41. Other embodiments illustrate operation of the friction-ratchet by a cam moved by a cranked lever engaged in a socket which projects from the side of the body 24.
