Abstract

553,193. Gauging and measuring devices. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN. Feb. 6, 1942, No. 1612. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1941. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] Relates to motion-transmitting devices comprising two parallel blade springs 2, 3 which connect two relatively movable members 1, 4 as in precision gauges, and consists in stiffening the blade springs by rigid pieces 6 throughout their entire length except where they are secured to the members 1, 4. The member 1 is fixed to the apparatus with which it is employed and carries a bracket to which is pivoted a bell-crank lever 7 to which is attached a blade spring 8 the free end of which engages a slof 9 formed on the member 4. The bell-crank 7 may be adjusted by a screw 10 so as to cause the spring 9 to urge the member 4 one way or the other with respect to the fixed member. A second screwed spindle 13 has a coned head 24 which enters a V notch 25 in the member 4 and serves to act as a stop limiting relative movement between the members. By screwing the spindle up so that the head 24 is hard up into the slot no relative movement is permitted and this is useful for transporting the instrument. The member 4 is provided with dove-tailed slots 14, 15, at right-angles, for connection to the parts movement of which is to be transmitted Figs. 3 and 4 show the invention applied to the measurement of a ring 40. The latter is placed on a table 16 and is engaged by a roller 18, a second roller not shown displaced 90 degrees therefrom and a third roller 17 the spindle of which extends through a slot in the table and is secured in a dovetailed slot in a member 23 which itself is adjustable in the slot 14 of the member 4. A member 27 adjustable in the slot 15 carries a micrometer screw 30 which is in alignment with and engages a plunger 32 of a dial gauge 31 mounted on a stationary part. In use, a standard ring 40 is placed between the three rollers and the screw 30 manipulated to adjust the gauge reading to zero. Successive production rings may then be gauged.
