[Class 106 (ii)) In a linear-dimension gauge having a worksupporting table 3 and a dial comparator instrument 5 mounted on a frame over the table, means is provided for adjusting or setting an adjustable gauge block placed in the gauge, this means, as shown, comprising a pair of arms 14, 16 fixed on a spindle mounted in the frame 1 so that the arms can be swung into or away from setting position, one arm 16 having an abutment 17 and the other arm 14 having an adjusting screw 15 mounted therein. The gauge block comprises three main parts, of which the intermediate member 18 is adjustable and tapered, the screw 15 acting to move this member 18 to vary the distance between the outer parallel faces of the block. The comparator 5 in conjunction with a scale 7 on the frame 1 and a scale 8 on the table 3 enable accurate adjustment of the block to be made. The table 3 is adjusted roughly along a guide 2 in the frame and then locked by a screw 9, but a fine adjustment can then be made since the table has a resilient part 10 which can be strained by means of a screw 12 operated by a lever 13. The arms 14, 16 may be mounted on a slide for movement away from setting position.
