[Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a main rule along which one or more sliders are adjustable and carry measuring pins extending transversely of the rule such pins being graduated, longitudinally displaceable in the sliders, and rotatable about an axis parallel with their direction of sliding. The sliders 2, 3 one and preferably both of which are adjustable longitudinally of the graduated round bar 1 are provided with verniers and may be clamped in adjusted position by set screws 6. Inserted in each slider is a guide sleeve 7 which may rotate relatively to the slider but is prevented from axial movement by a flange 8 and nut 9. A scale 11 adapted to slide transversely of the rule or bar 1 in the axial direction of the sleeve 7 is located in each sleeve. A guide groove 12 is engaged by a screw 13 to prevent the scale turning in its sleeve. The scale cooperates with a vernier graduation on an extension 10 of the sleeve. The lower portions of the scales are provided with threads 14 on which may be screwed balls or ball cup of contact members. These may be used as shown in Fig. 7, where half ball contacts are used, to measure the horizontal and vertical distances a, b between the centres of cup parts 21, 22, the main bar 1 being set horizontally by means of a level 20. The cup ends may be used for the measurements between the centres of ball parts. One form is also shown where complete ball contacts are used to measure the direct distance be- .tween the centre of two cup parts.
