Abstract
278,524. Gregory, V. H. Oct. 6, 1926. Recording by co-ordinates.-In a recording instrument to produce a more open record the recording arm is caused to travel twice or more times the width of the record sheet by means of a compound lever arrangement, interposed' between the recording arm and the moving element of the instrument. The compound lever, as shown, comprises a main lever 4 and an auxiliary lever 5 carried by a fulcrum 13 on the lever 4. The lever 4, which is pivoted at 12, is connected by a spring 3 with the moving element 1 of the instrument and is counterbalanced by a weight 11 while the auxiliary lever 5 has a stop 14 at one end! engaging the lever 4 and is connected by a link 6 with an adjustable lever 7 carried by the spindle 8 of the pen arm 9. An adjustable abutment 16 constituted by a length of spring wire on the auxiliary lever 5 is adapted to coacts with a spring controlled stop 17 slidably mounted in an adjustable bearing 18. Where a double traverse of the pen arm is desired during the complete outward movement of the element 1, the spring of the stop 17 is designed so as not to yield by contact with the abutment 16. If, however, three traverses are desired the abutment 16 is arranged to press back the stop 17 during the last third of the outward movement of the element 1 the levers 4 and 5 being moved rigidly by their engagement through the adjustable stop 20 on the auxiliary lever.
