Linear-dimension gauges.-The apparatus, which is intended for use with wires of small gauge, comprises two slides 1, 10 movable relatively to each other, and each carrying a part adapted to engage the specimen frictionally. The part 1 has side extensions 3 which rest upon guides 4, while the part 10 is guided in'strips 11 bolted to the first part. The frictional engagement is secured by jaws 7 pressed towards each other by springs as shown. The relative movement is read off at the index 11<x> against the scale 12, which may indicate elongation, or percentage elongation.
